The final Stage of the Grand Tour de Grüne Hauptwege was a lovely cycle across the district of Spandau towards the border of Berlin and Brandenburg. The extremely well-paved path along the Bullengraben was excellent for cycling through some very residential areas in Berlin. The final stretch took me in the moor landscape around the Hahneberg with some great views over the Brandenburg landscape.
The penultimate Stage of the Grand Tour de Grüne Hauptwege was an enjoyable loop around central Berlin. I was struggling to get out on the bike because of blood glucose issues so this route was great for trying out new ways of controlling my blood glucose. Thankfully, I could enjoy a sunny day cycling through many parks and along different waterways.
Stage 18 of the Grand Tour de Grüne Hauptwege was a lovely loop around central Berlin. I cycled through some of my favourite green areas, such as the Schlossgarten Charlottenburg, Rehberge and Tempelhofer Feld. A great reminder of the many green spaces in close proximity to more residential areas.
Stage 17 of the Grand Tour de Grüne Hauptwege was not only a lovely ride following the Teltowkanal (Teltow Canal) but a baptism of fire for my new diabetes management. The route took me through different industrial zones and street art in the middle of a forest.
Stage 16 of the Grand Tour de Grüne Hauptwege took me through some lovely northern districts of Berlin. This route was inspired by the wanderings of the Humboldt brothers (Alexander and Wilhelm). I was lucky enough to cycle this route when the first blossoms were at their peak. I also managed to enjoy some sheep, cows, boar and deer along the way too.
After a long winter break, the Grand Tour de Grüne Hauptwege was back! This route took me through many of the southern districts of Berlin that lay on the Teltow plateau. Although most of these districts are very residential, there are many nice green areas and paths along canals, ditches and especially along the former path of the Berlin Wall.
Stage 14 of the Grand Tour de Grüne Hauptwege followed the river Wuhle from the north east of Berlin towards the river Spree in Köpenick. This is the final Stage of this Grand Tour in 2021 and it was fantastic! Full of amazing views from “mountains” and autumnal colours everywhere. This long planned ride was really worth the wait.
A sunny but chilly autumn day was a great chance to cycle through the Barnim Villages for Stage 13 of the Grand Tour de Grüne Hauptwege. I cycled from the Tegeler See towards the east of Berlin through some amazing landscapes – many of which are nature reserves too. Despite some blood glucose troubles at the end, this was an amazing ride and I really loved the autumn colours just popping everywhere.
Stage 12 of the Grand Tour de Grüne Hauptwege was the perfect tour to appreciate autumn in Berlin. The paths along the Havel were amazing with lots of small harbours, and sandy beaches. The reflections of the autumn colours in these waters was simply breathtaking!
The eleventh Grüner Hauptweg was a stunning ride where I visited most of the lakes making up the Grunewaldseenkette (Grunewald Lake Chain). These lakes are surrounded by villas, lush forests and are very popular with swimmers, hikers and cyclists. A truly magnificent ride!
